Syllabi

                This course has been designed to include a thorough review of the basic concepts of most areas of science including science & technology, motion & forces, energy, matter & earth, and interactions of matter.  The importance of science in everyday situations considering the students as stewards of the Earth. Practical laboratory demonstrations and exercises are used to stimulate interest in science as applies to everyday life.

1. Class participation and preparation is required.
2. Complete assignments and readings in order to participate in class.  Late work will be assessed a lower score. 20% will be deducted from the assignment and must be handed in one week from original due date.  Otherwise, the work will not be collected for credit.  Incomplete or late assignments due during the final week of a quarter will not be accepted late.  A zero grade will be assigned instead.  Major projects will have a different policy and will be discussed when they are assigned.
3. Everyone should be respectful and courteous to not only your peers and faculty, but yourself too.
4. Try your best at all times and enjoy learning science!

1. Bring materials to class everyday. This includes binder, notebook, pen/pencils, calculator, homework/classwork and text.
2. If you are going to be/have been absent, it is your responsibility to see me about what was missed. You will have equal time for makeup work as days missed, same applies for exams. (Ex. Miss one day, which was an exam day, exam will be made up on day of return. If three class days were missed, then a student has three days to make up all activities.)
3. Complete homework – sufficient practice is necessary for success!
4. No work, No credit, No arguments!

I come prepared to teach; therefore you need to come prepared each day to learn.

Getting Help:Availability: M-F 7:15 - 7:45 am and T-H 3:00 - 3:45 pm

If these times are not convenient for you, I will work around your schedule the best that I can.

Course Grading: (each quarter)

Exams and Quizzes – 70%  There will be at least three exams and announced and unannounced quizzes.

Laboratory – 10%  The lab portion will consist of lab reports, lab quizzes, and lab work.

Homework – 10%  Homework will be checked for completion and at times correctness.

Class work, Class Discussion and InvolvementEach student is expected to come prepared for class.

Project – 10%  There will be at least one project to complete during each quarter.

1. Partners will be chosen at the start of each quarter.
2. Come prepared – read over lab procedures before coming to lab.
3. Long hair must be tied back and removed from the face.
4. Lab glasses must be worn during lab sessions, when appropriate.
5. Ties must be tucked into shirt or aprons must be worn.
6. Horseplay will not be tolerated in the lab.
7. Failure to comply with directions will result in removal from the lab; a lower lab grade will result.

If at any time you have questions or concerns about any material discussed in class, please see me immediately so that we can resolve your question/concern.
